TRAIL RULES TRAIL PASSES

1. A current user pass is encouraged for all trail users ages 12-64. Funds from user passes are used to maintain and develop the trail. Annual and Daily Passes can be purchased at the Yellow Drop Boxes located at several access points along the trail. Annual Passes can also be purchased in Omaha at Bike Rack, Bike Way, Olympia Cycle, and Trek Store; in LaVista at High Gear; in Council Bluffs at Endless Trail, True Wheel, and Xtreme Wheels; and in Shenandoah at The Depot Restuarant . Optionally, send $10.00 with SASE to SWINT, Box 581, Shenandoah, IA 51601.

2. Courtesy: The Wabash Trace is a multi-use recreational trail. Bike riders, please control your speed, ride on the right, pass on the left. Please give warning of your approach with a friendly greeting or use a bell. Cyclists should yield the right of way to pedestrians. Everyone must yield to horses on bridges until the animal is off the bridge.
3. Leave no marks. Be aware that the trail's crushed limestone surface is especially vulnerable to damage during the freeze/thaw cycle in the winter and spring. Please avoid using the trail if you can leave impressions in the surface. Wildflowers, trees and shrubs, and animal habitat can only flourish if left alone. Do not litter or disturb neighboring livestock.

4. Stay on open trails only. Respect trail and road closures, as well as private property adjacent to the trail. Exercise caution when crossing roads and highways.
5. No unauthorized motor vehicles are allowed on any portion of the trail. This includes snowmobiles, motorcycles, and ATVs.
6. Horseback riding is allowed ONLY on the designated equestrian trail which runs parallel to the surfaced trail between Council Bluffs and Mineola.
7. Hunting, trapping, weapons, open fires, and unleashed animals are not allowed.
8. Camping is not allowed on the trail itself. For camping information, see Accommodations.
9. Enjoy your day on the Wabash Trace. Here are a few things you can do on your own or with a group: walk, jog, run; ride a bike; cross-country ski; indentify animal tracks, birdcalls, trees, or wildflowers; walk your dog (on leash); travel the scenic byways through the Loess Hills, visit historic buildings and museums; have a picnic; read a book; stargaze; get a closer look at working farms; write poetry; take photographs;draw pictures; sing or whistle; make new friends!!
