Support The Trail

The Wabash Trace depends entirely on the volunteer efforts of private citizens who build, maintain and manage the trail.

Tasked with managing the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, the Southwest Iowa Nature Trails, Inc. (SWINT) is a private, non-profit organization made up of volunteers who are committed to recreational trail development. SWINT members organize all official activities on the Wabash Trace.

 The 40 member SWINT Board of Directors, which is responsible for development and maintenance of the trail, represents the four counties in Iowa (through which the trail runs), as well as at large-membership membership from other Midwest states. SWINT works closely with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and the Page County Conservaton Board to assure the continued existence of this great recreational resource.

Management of the trail includes bridge construction and repair, trail surface maintenance, weed control, tree trimming, sign placement, special events planning, Adopt-a-Bridge/Bench/Mile programs, general fundraising, promotions, public relations and sale of User Passes.

Although the Wabash Trace is privately owned, it is open to the public.  Trail users are subject to the rules established by SWINT (see Trail Rules and Passes). SWINT encourages use of the trail for group activities. Please contact the Board members listed above for more information about scheduling group events.
